Season of Thankfulness Series: Brittany
BE Grateful. Be Still.
My to-do list has about a million tasks on it. A few more are added everyday making it impossible to ever be completely caught up. Meanwhile, friends and loved ones are trying to get in touch with me to make plans for the weekend and the holidays. The car needs gas. My dog is begging for a walk. I forgot to eat.
Not to mention society’s pressure on what it means to be “successful” and a “good” person, partner, parent, friend, sibling, etc. Nor the stress of national and global events. Oh my!
It’s easy to get lost in all of this and feel overwhelmed. I was doing just that last week while I walked my dog. The sun had set on another day, and it was another day in which I did not get caught up. My thoughts were running wild, and I was barely paying attention to my dog sniffing around.
And then, I looked up and just stopped moving. The feeling was visceral in my chest, like when you a see a loved one you haven’t been able to visit for years. A mix of joy and love, and maybe even a few tears. So, I stood there, feet glued to the sidewalk, and took in all the vastness, stillness, and beauty of the night sky full of stars.
I was overcome with awe and perspective. My to-do list doesn’t hold any kind of weight out there in the universe. I looked at my sweet pup and felt my love for her. In this moment, right here, I have peace within myself.
This year, I’m grateful for Stillness. It’s a rebellious act in a world of busyness. Stillness means to not necessarily be physically still, but to allow our mind to be quiet and our heart to be present. It is taking a step back to see the bigger picture. We can find it by creating the space to connect with self, the rhythm of our breath, nature, loved ones, a hobby (like creating art or dancing), a higher-being, etc.
We can’t always control the pressures and the stress of life, but we can choose how we see them, and we can create inner peace amongst outer chaos by being still.
Brittany Will Take Time For You
Are you tired of feeling like you’re never good enough or like you’re never doing enough? Do you tend to feel emotions deeply? Or perhaps, you’re an adoptee who never quite feels like you belong. You just want to feel seen and heard and to feel valued for who you are. If this sounds like you, I’m here to let you know that your story and your voice matters.
I am Brittany, a compassionate guide for individuals (ages 8+) who seek understanding, acceptance, and self-confidence. I provide individual therapy to adults and kids (ages 8+) via Telehealth in Missouri. I offer traditional Talk Therapy, but sometimes words can’t convey everything. So, I also specialize in the holistic approach of Expressive Arts Therapy to help you express yourself fully and explore obstacles that have been holding you back so you can begin to heal.
It can be a lonely experience to feel like you have to play small around others, or to not feel rooted in who you are. I can walk the journey with you to nurture your personal growth. I’d love to help you feel liberated so you can feel empowered to lead your best life.
